In all my 78 years on earth I have never seen presidential candidates speak with such crude and cruel rhetoric as the ones who are running this year. It is impossible for me to believe that these people are the best our country has to offer. Bullies and liars do not inspire respect or admiration--unless one admires tyrants and dictators. These are the bottom feeders; where are the enlighteners?
Name calling, personal attacks, filthy language, cruel imitations of a disabled reporter--I cannot imagine that this vile behavior encourages anyone to vote for the candidate who is doing it. Our presidential candidates are appealing to the dark sides of people, are bringing out the worst in people. We all have our dark sides, of course, but civilization normally keeps them in check. Certainly we must not use them in the voting booth. We must vote for civility and the issues at hand.
Each one of these candidates wants to be the president of the United States, a position that demands maturity and depth of thought. Do these candidates think that they can behave like pre-school children on the playground until they are elected and then switch to adulthood once they take the oath of office?
What a sorry thing it is that our presidential candidates have sunk so low in quest of an office so high.
